About Us

Our Story

PAR TEE FORE A CURE is a non-profit volunteer-based fundraising team, located in Manotick, Ontario, Canada (a suburb of the city of Ottawa), with a goal  to raise money in support of cancer treatment, care and research.

PAR TEE FORE A CURE was formed in 2003 when a group of friends captained by Kathy Charlebois, entered a team in the Canadian Cancer Society's "Relay for Life".  In 2004 we expanded our fundraising efforts by organizing a small, fun-packed charity golf tournament at Mont Ste. Marie. The feedback from participants was tremendous and we made a $9,000 contribution to the "Relay For Life".

In January 2005, Lynda and Jim Palmer's daughter Beth lost her battle with lung cancer. The group decided to dedicate the golf fundraiser to Beth's memory and re-named the fundraiser "The Beth Palmer Open". Our newly named tournament was held on Labour Day weekend in September 2005 with a full field of 144 golfers. The "Beth Palmer Open" netted $22,700 for the 2006 "Relay for Life".

After the 2005 tournament, PAR TEE FORE A CURE decided that it would keep the funds raised in the Ottawa area, in support of cancer research, treatment and care facilities.

In 2006, our tournament raised $25,500 which was donated to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation in support  of Dr. John Bell's research in the field of Oncolytic Viruses (cancer killing viruses). In 2007 we donated $50,000 to Dr. Bell's research.  In 2008 we raised $42,000 which was donated to purchase specialty chemo therapy beds which are now in use in the Cancer Unit in the General Hospital.  For 2009 we donated $45,000 to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation in support of Dr. John Bell's on-going research.

In 2007, we lost our captain Kathy Charlebois to Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Our tournament was renamed PAR TEE FORE A CURE Golf Tournament in memory of Kathy Charlebois and Beth Palmer.

Since our start in 2003, we have raised in excess of $300,000 to help in the fight against cancer.
