About Par Tee Fore A Cure! |
Par Tee Fore A Cure is a non-profit volunteer-based fundraising team, located in Manotick, Ontario, Canada (a suburb of the city of Ottawa), whose goal is to raise money to support cancer treatment, care and research. Par Tee Fore A Cure was formed in 2003 when a group of friends entered a team in the Canadian Cancer Society's "Relay for Life". Team members include: Jeannie and Alan Archer, Kathy and Barry Charlebois, Lynda and Jim Palmer, Catherine and Don Wilson, and Judy and Fraser Wilton. We are a group of avid golfers who enjoy socializing, hence our team name. In 2004 we expanded our fundraising efforts by organizing a small, fun-packed charity golf tournament at Mont Ste. Marie. The feedback from participants was tremendous and we made a $9,000 contribution to the 2005 "Relay For Life". In January 2005, Lynda and Jim Palmer's daughter Beth lost her battle with lung cancer. The group decided to dedicate the golf fundraiser to Beth's memory and re-named the fundraiser "The Beth Palmer Open". Our newly named tournament was held on Labour Day weekend in September 2005 with a full field of 144 golfers. The "Beth Palmer Open" netted $22,700 for the 2006 "Relay for Life". Par Tee Fore A Cure now donates funds raised to Ottawa area cancer research and care facilities. In 2006, we donated $25,500 to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. These funds were allocated to Dr. John Bell to assist in his research on Oncolytic Viruses. Each year we will select a local recipient and announce our selection in conjunction with the staging of "The Beth Palmer Open". Total funds raised in 2007: $50,000 Total funds raised since 2003: $116,120 We hope that you will join us in our fight against cancer. |
